Pond and Drainage System Cleaning & Solidification
Eagle performed the dredging of a pond and cleaning of a drainage system of an industrial facility. Initially, Eagle constructed a dewatering and sludge stabilization area for the removed material. Eagle performed the cleaning of the drainage system which consisted of removal of sediment from drainage ditches as well as culvert pipes. Removal of the PCB contaminated sludge from the ditches was performed utilizing an excavator. The removed material was transferred to the dewatering and stabilization area with a loader. Eagle also cleaned the culvert systems at the facility utilizing a line jetter. All of the sludge removed from the system were captured and placed into the dewatering and stabilization area.
Eagle utilized a long stick excavator to remove sludge from the pond to restore the capacity of the pond. Special care was taken to limit the depth of sludge removal so that the pond liner was not damaged. Sludge were transferred to the dewatering and stabilization area with a loader.
Due to the makeup of the sludge, dewatering alone would not make the sludge pass the paint filter test. A natural additive was incorporated into the sludge to solidify the material to allow it to be transported to the landfill. The additive provided by Eagle was approved by the landfill and the client which did not require any additional testing following solidification since it was a natural recycled material and did not alter the chemical properties of the waste.
Eagle loaded the waste onto trucks provided by others where it was transported to an approved disposal facility. Eagle decontaminated the remediation equipment and demobilized from the site. The project was completed on budget and ahead of the client’s deadline.
